CAST-ATTREX 2015 campaign

Unraveling the TTL nexus

Rationale

Understanding chemistry and transport processes happening in the tropical upper troposphere is crucial because it is the gateway to the stratosphere, making it important for stratospheric composition and ozone depletion. The aims of the CAST-ATTREX 2015 campaign are to:

CAST-ATTREX 2015 will start in the end of February with two survey long range/test flights over the East Pacific, followed by three science flights (each 20-hr long) in March 2015. Global Hawk will be sampling the deep tropical air at 14-20 km, performing both long range level flight legs and vertical profiling.
